When looking for a life expectancy for your liner, these factors are what determines a long and healthy containment system:

  • Material Type – Material type is also a key factor in a successful liner. HDPE, LDPE, RPE, RPP, PVC, EPDM and XR-5 are some of our more commonly used materials. Each material has it’s own strengths and weaknesses.
  • Material Thickness – The material’s thickness does play a large role in the life of the liner. However, there are new material formulations that don’t require manufacturers to make thick mil/gauge liners.
  • Project Location – A projects location can sometimes play a role in the ability for installation crews and also dirt movers to properly grade the project.
  • Contents to be Contained – This goes back to both the type and thickness of a material that is best suited for the projects needs. There is almost, always a liner that works perfectly for our clients requirements.
  • General Maintenance – With liners, it is always best to catch a damaged area early on. If the repair is put off, it can create washout, undermining, bubbling or even a cause the entire liner system to float. FLSI offers a service contract for annual or bi-annual site visits to review your liners overall health.

To really answer the question, it can be quite difficult. However, we have seen firsthand liners that have been in service for more than 40+ years that look fantastic and have minimal degradation.
