Most damaged areas in a liner can be repaired or replaced. What mainly determines if a repair will be successful is:
- The Location of the Damage – The location most times for damaged areas in a liner is mostly in the exposed areas of the slopes. However accidents happen and some damage areas occur below the operating level, in the case of it being below operating level the area will have to be exposed to perform a successful repair.
- The Extent of the Damage – It’s uncommon to see damage larger than the size of a shovel head. However, if the damage goes unnoticed it can grow quite large which may require more than a small patch, but a full section of the containment liner to be replaced.
- Material Type – The material will also determine the method of repairing the damaged area. Some materials require only extrusion welding, others require only hot air welding and some can accept both methods.
